Help while you study

Personal Tutor/Progress Coach

All students on full-time courses are allocated to a Personal Tutor or Progress Coach. This is the most important person at the College, because their role is to look after you and make sure that nothing stops you from succeeding.

Financial support

You can ask your Personal Tutor/Progress Coach about how to apply for financial support (e.g. for Bursaries, transport costs, course related expenses or childcare) or speak to staff in the Student Hub (Student Services) at each campus.

Guaranteed bursaries - Who can apply?

The Guaranteed Bursary is a fund to help students with the costs of studying and is available to students aged 16-18 on the 31 August of the year enrolled, if you are in one of the groups listed below:

  • In care (LAC)
  • Leaving care (YCL)
  • In receipt of income support (in your own name)
  • In receipt of both Employment and Support Allowance & Disability Living Allowance
  • In receipt of Universal Credit

Learning support

If you think you might need some extra help, don’t delay in telling us as you could be missing out on the support you are entitled to - the sooner you tell us, the sooner we can help!

Student Experience Team

The team operate from the Common Rooms at each campus and coordinate a range of activities and events to provide opportunities to make friends, as well as develop personal qualities that future employers value (e.g. Social, Employability, Enterprise and Digital Skills).

Careers advice, Higher Education and your next steps

Our IAG (Information Advice & Guidance) team can provide information about applying to University, explain how apprenticeships work and assist with things like making a job application, deciding which course to move on to, or putting a CV together. The IAG team can also signpost those universities who are as committed as we are to supporting LAC/YCL learners (e.g. by offering bursaries, year-round accommodation and meeting your support needs.)
