About the course:

This course will give you an insight into early years education and care; preparing you to work with children between 0-7 years. It is ideal if you are interested in working with young children and playing a major role in their development.

What you will study:

  • Understanding child development
  • Keeping children safe
  • Communicating with children and adults
  • Preparing and maintaining environments for child care
  • Professional development roles
  • Supporting children’s play and learning
  • Work experience in a children’s care setting


  • Assessment is by course work and assignments, which are both internally and externally assessed
  • Placement attendance and completion of 300 hours

Entry requirements:

  • 4 GCSEs - grades A*-D / 9 - 3 including English
  • OR  Exploring the Caring Sector (Early Years) Level 1 Diploma - with Level 1 English and Maths
  • Advanced DBS Clearance
  • Selection is by interview and internal tests

  • Children’s Play, Learning and Development Level 3 National Subsidiary Certificate
  • Children’s Play, Learning and Development Level 3 National Diploma
