The needs of industry are at the heart of London South East Colleges approach to working with employers and how we prepare young people for the future jobs market. To ensure that the very latest thinking, innovation and forward planning are at the heart of our strategy, we have established a strategic sub regional London South East Employment and Skills Board.
This board is further enhanced by 11 Industry Advisory Boards. Each board consists of leading industry partners, who provide strategic advice and direction on the future design and development of employer led skills and training, from entry level through to degrees and higher level apprenticeships in each industry sector.
These leading employers feedback to the London South East Employment and Skills Board with industry specific recommendations, and represent a collective voice for the sub region on sector/industry specific issues, which in turn provides a voice back to central and regional government, influencing policy development, skills planning, and investment in that sector.
These Academies involve Curriculum Team Managers working directly with employers to improve employer relationships and engagement with the College.
Closely aligned to the Industry Advisory Boards, are our sector specific Employer Academies. This collaborative way of working with industry experts at a local and sub regional level provides hands on practical opportunities for our students to engage with their future employers. This is often through work experience, onsite training, mock interviews and in some case co-designed and co-delivered curriculum programmes.
To promote this opportunity to employers, London South East Colleges has designed the unique Employer Advantage scheme. This programme invites employers to work closely with students of all ages who are keen to develop their skills and make an active contribution to the local economy in a format that suits the industry partner’s company.
