Joyau chose an apprenticeship with London South East Colleges to gain practical experience while learning, developing his skills and building his career. Now, after an impressive first year with Galliford Try, his hard work has earned him the CoTrain Apprentice of the Quarter award.
For Joyau, choosing an apprenticeship was about more than gaining a qualification. He wanted to put his learning into practice in a real working environment while developing the knowledge and experience needed to build a career in construction.
One of the things he has enjoyed most is seeing a project come to life, from the plans on paper through to the finished result. Working alongside people from across the company and different trades has also given Joyau the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals and benefit from their knowledge and support.
Throughout his first year, Joyau has developed a deeper understanding of the construction industry, project delivery and the importance of collaboration across different disciplines. He has strengthened his communication and problem-solving skills and grown in confidence when taking ownership of tasks and responsibilities.
His experience at Galliford Try has also given him opportunities to take on new challenges and greater responsibility. With the support of colleagues and mentors, Joyau has developed both his technical knowledge and professional skills. He is now more confident communicating with clients, managing his workload and contributing to project discussions.
Joyau’s commitment to his apprenticeship was recently recognised when he was named CoTrain Apprentice of the Quarter.
“It is a great feeling to be recognised for the hard work and effort I’ve put into my apprenticeship so far. It has given me a confidence boost to keep working hard and make the most of the opportunities I’m given.”
Looking ahead, Joyau is focused on continuing to develop his knowledge and skills, gaining as much experience as possible and successfully progressing through his apprenticeship. His long-term ambition is to take on greater responsibility, build his expertise and become a well-rounded construction professional who can contribute to the successful delivery of major projects.
