English and Maths

Improve your skills and your work opportunities 

Are you looking to improve your English and maths skills for education, employment, or everyday life? 

Do you want to improve your qualifications for further study, gain the confidence to apply for a job or a promotion, or simply be able to help your children with their homework?

We offer part-time day and evening courses in English and Maths at all levels. Most courses lead to a recognised qualification, and you will receive advice and guidance in choosing the right qualification for you. We offer the following courses:

  • Functional Skills at Entry, Levels 1 and 2—Functional Skills are widely recognised across all sectors and are the preferred apprenticeship qualifications.
  • GCSEs are at Level 2, and you need to have the underlying English/Maths skills before embarking on the course. GCSEs are the preferred qualifications for progression to Higher Education and careers in Education or Early Years.

We offer exceptional support in and out of class. Specialist English and Maths Hubs across all our sites provide a centre for students to develop and fine-tune their knowledge with expert tutors' advice, support, and teaching.

Maths - GCSE

This course is designed primarily for students who have already studied GCSE Maths but wish to improve their grade to a four or higher. You will study at the foundation tier.

English - GCSE

The course develops your ability in writing, reading, speaking and listening through preparation for the AQA New Syllabus English Language GCSE. There are no longer separate foundation and higher tiers for this qualification.

Maths - Functional Skills

We offer courses at all levels in a friendly, supportive environment so that you can develop the skills you need. All evening courses are once a week. Most daytime courses are also once a week, but in some cases, the course runs over two afternoons to fit in with school finishing times.
