Design Surveying and Planning for Construction - T Level

You will develop both the technical knowledge and practical skills required to work within construction and design settings, including:

• Planning and managing health and safety
• Studying a wide range of construction methods including traditional and modern
• Producing technical reports on building design concepts, their feasibility and specification
• Learning how the space within a building can be fully utilised to maximise user satisfaction
• Designing buildings using a range of graphical methods including hand drawings, 2D cad plans and Revit models
• Project planning using industry software to allocate time and resources, and produce a graphical project plan
• Studying how to maximise human comfort within a building by applying thermal, acoustic, lighting, ventilation and humidity calculations
• Applying construction law including contract, building regulations and safety legislation
• Using sustainable construction methods and waste management planning
• Calculating accurate costs and producing a bill of quantities for different projects
• Carrying out detailed land and building surveys using industry standard equipment
• Understanding how materials and structures are designed to ensure structural stability and minimise waste
• Presenting your design ideas using presentation software and face to face delivery

You will need:

• Five GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including maths, English and Science (Science combined or trilogy)

Assessment is designed to reflect the skills and knowledge required by employers and includes:

• External examinations
• An Employer Set Project
• Practical assignments and observations
• Assessment of your occupational specialism
• Evaluation of your performance throughout your industry placement

You'll receive an overall grade of Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction* and gain a nationally recognised qualification that carries UCAS Tariff points for those wishing to progress to higher education.

The T Level is also recognised by universities and employers across the UK, giving you the skills, experience and qualifications needed to take your next step with confidence.

This is a two-year full-time programme, starting in September each year and finishing in June/July.

You will spend around 22.5 hours in the classroom each week. During your placement you will either work full-time for 9 weeks or part-time for 45 days, or a mixture of the two. In addition, you will need to study independently for around 3 hours a week to keep up with the demands of the course

A key part of your T Level is the industry placement, where you'll gain real-world experience in a design and surveying setting.
